Joel 3 PREEMPTOR The enemy takes advantage of our weakness for idolatry and brings many opportunities for idol worship our way. He uses the media, which is controlled by the Antichrist spirit, to draw attention to and glorify these heaven gods of self gratification and sin. Most people, including Christians, watch several hours of television each day where beautiful people act out fictional stories in which they triumph over every obstacle or tragedy without prayer or the help of God. Eventually, over time, many Christians who possibly spend a short devotional time with God every morning but spend their entire evening watching TV, lose interest in God. Many times it isn’t until some great tragedy comes into our life that we get back into a more sincere pursuit of God. Then, alas, when things start going well again, we often fall back into our lax spiritual life and God needs to permit another difficulty to come our way to draw us back again. Our verse states that these heathen gods will be “acknowledged and increased with glory” and that he (the Antichrist in my interpretation) will “cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.” There is no doubt that our hearts and minds are being seduced towards evil by the movies and TV programs we watch and the music we listen to. Satanic cults believe that good is evil and evil is good. Subtly we find ourselves accepting this in the carefully crafted stories and songs that exalt sin. If you take time to notice, most movies have something immoral in them that has nothing to do with the storyline. We watch these movies anyway. Many songs played in our stores and offices, to say nothing of the radio stations broadcasting into homes and automobiles, are glorifying adultery. Movie stars and recording artists become people’s gods and they are so acknowledged and glorified that their sinful ways, once considered taboo, have become something to be emulated. This causes these false gods to rule over many people. Romans 6:16 states, “Don’t you realize that whatever you choose to obey becomes your master?” (NLT) This is how the Antichrist spirit is able to rule over people and even overtake a nation. This leads us to 2 Thes 2:7-12 that I believe describes where we are in our nation at this time: For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed whom the Lord Jesus will consume with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. This evil man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles He will use every kind of wicked deception to fool those who are on their way to destruction because they refuse to believe the truth that would save them. So God will send great deception upon them, and they will believe all these lies. Then they will be condemned for not believing the truth and for enjoying the evil they do. Clark, Patricia. There is a perpetually higher price to be paid if one wants to continue getting the Devil’s powers. What worked last week won’t work this week. If killing a rabbit brought power last week, one must kill two rabbits this week to get the same amount of power so to speak. So far we have only talked about power gained through abuse, but there also must be death in their rituals. After the living creature is killed, everyone in attendance at the ritual must eat part of the animal’s flesh and drink its blood. At some point the Devil is not satisfied with the death of an animal or multiple animals and wants a human sacrifice. It is often the baby of one of the cult members that gets sacrificed. It is not unusual for drugs to be administered to the mother causing premature birth so the child can be sacrificed before the pregnancy is as noticeable as it would be in the last few weeks. In this verse we don’t see human sacrifice but we do see the demons demanding this perpetrator do more if he is to get the power he needs to get out of his predicament. The demon wants to expand his kingdom (enter with the strength of his whole kingdom). The demon is not satisfied that he has completely taken over the perpetrator’s soul. He wants to expand his kingdom to those innocent persons around the perpetrator (and upright ones with him). The demon will see to it that circumstances arise such that the perpetrator will have the opportunity to sexually abuse an innocent baby or child, in this case a little girl (and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her). The Hebrew word for “corrupting” is frequently used by the prophets in the sense of “to corrupt morally.” This little girl will not choose to serve Satan as this perpetrator does (but she shall not stand on his side). It had been days since south-central Pennsylvania had seen the sun. The trickles ran down hills, forming streams that turned into small rivers, all looking for pools where the water could stop its journey and accumulate. One of those collection pools was Lake Conemaugh—a reservoir created when the South Fork Dam was built in the mid-nineteenth century. Now, decades later, the poor engineering of the dam was about to reveal itself in a disastrous way. On May 31, 1889, the constant downpour finally prevailed. The South Fork Dam burst, sending 3.8 billion gallons of water crashing down the mountain toward unsuspecting Johnstown, Pennsylvania. As the water rushed, it picked up debris—trees, cabins, railroad cars. It also swept up victims as it tore through helpless small towns—South Fork, Mineral Point, and East Conemaugh. When the flood finally reached Johnstown some 57 minutes later, the wall of water and wreckage was 35 feet high and travelling at 40 miles per hour. The destruction was unimaginable. A reported 2,209 people lost their lives that day, including 99 entire families wiped off the face of the earth.1 All that potential for destruction had been there for years, but it had been restrained by the dam. This is the very picture that Paul presents in 2 Thessalonians 2. There is a restrainer in place right now, held secure by the Lord. But it will not remain there forever. A time is coming when the restrainer will be removed. On that day, people had better run for high ground, because devastation is about to pour down THE COMING APOSTASY Great confusion surrounds Paul’s words in 2 Thessalonians 2. There is little doubt that he is talking about the end times and the coming of the Antichrist. It’s the timing of the passage’s events that creates the debate. The origin of the uncertainty resides less in Paul’s words than in how people read them. Many, however, don’t read as far as they should. Paul began, “Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come” (verses 1-2). A rumor was spreading, saying that Christ had returned, and the Thessalonians had somehow been left behind. Paul told them, “Don’t worry, folks. It’s all fake news.” He encouraged them not to panic or rush to conclusions. There is an order of events that must occur before the return of Christ. The day is approaching, but it’s not here yet. Up to this point, everyone seems to agree on what is said in the passage. The problem comes when some people read just one more verse, then stop. This premature halt leaves them with a thoroughly wrong conclusion. Paul wrote, “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Jesus will not return until there is a falling away. The Greek word here is apostasia, which gives us the English word apostasy. There are some who say that this word refers to the rapture, which makes no sense linguistically or logically. …………… Something is restraining, and something is being restrained. That’s the first time this is mentioned. Let’s read on: “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed” (verses 7-8). Notice the timing in these verses. Lawlessness is already at work. This is happening in the present time. The restraining one is now restraining and will continue to do so. However, at some point in the future, that restrainer will be removed, and the restraining will end. Once the restraining ends, the Antichrist will be revealed. That’s why we’ve got to read the whole passage. The best way to study the Bible is to let the Bible explain the Bible. Paul made it clear that there is one reason the Antichrist is not being revealed right this very moment: The restrainer has not yet been removed. Tsarfati, Amir.
