Spiritual Warfare Thank you for joining me in this exciting journey through God’s Word. I wrote
this book to help Christians understand what Scripture says about spiritual warfare, both now and
into the prophetic end times. My hope and prayer is that as you read this book, you will attain…
• a better understanding of spiritual warfare and how knowledge of this warfare can benefit your
life spiritually, emotionally, and even physically; • an awareness— perhaps for the first time in
your life— of the specific tactics Satan is most likely to use against you this year and the years that
follow as we move into the end times; • insights into the ways Satan can gain a stronghold in your
life— as well as what you can do to prevent it and what you can do if he already has one; • an
understanding about the gang attack— composed of the world, the flesh, and the devil— that
daily confronts you; • an awareness of how satanic and demonic attacks will
intensify in the end times, especially in the years that immediately
precede the second coming of Christ; • a strong conviction about how staying close
to Jesus is one of the most important factors in your victory in spiritual warfare. (The sheep
who are the safest from the wolves are those who stay nearest the
Shepherd.) Jesus’ victory becomes our victory; • insights about the pivotal role of the Holy
Spirit (the “Spirit of truth”) in overcoming the devil (the “father of lies”); • an understanding of
how to daily get dressed in God’s armor, which will keep you safe in the trenches of spiritual
warfare; • a strong conviction about the strategic importance of prayer in overcoming the
archenemy of our souls; • a strong conviction about the strategic importance of God’s Word in
standing against— and defeating— the archenemy of our souls; • insights about God’s holy angels
and how God uses these invisible secret agents behind the scenes to protect you and bring
blessing into your life; • an exalted view of the supreme majesty, glory, and power of Jesus Christ;
• a strong conviction that God will one day bring a mighty triumph over all the powers

This approach is intentional. The internal war is the one most people neglect, and it is also where
most people fall. If you are defeated within, you will never have authority over the external world.
Once you have brought your mind into the right way of thinking, submitted yourself to God, and
clothed yourself in His armor, it is time to bring His kingdom into every corner of the world. That
is our calling and purpose, as discussed in chapter 5. Second Corinthians 10:4 contains this
powerful parenthetical statement: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty
through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (KJV). What are these weapons? You might
immediately think of the armor of God in Ephesians 6, which we have already discussed. But
remember, this list contains only one offensive weapon—the sword of the Spirit, which is the
Word of God. The rest of the gear is strictly defensive (i.e., they are not listed as weapons). Yet
Paul says that we have mighty spiritual weapons (plural) for waging warfare and pulling down
strongholds. The question remains, what are these weapons? First, as I argued in chapter 6, it’s
important to keep in mind that Paul’s teaching on the armor of God is not meant to be taken too
strictly. Paul’s metaphor approximates God’s armor in Isaiah 59:15–18. It indicates a readiness for
battle against evil and injustice. For us as well, clothing ourselves in spiritual armor is an indication
we are on the warpath against evil. But obviously believers have many powerful weapons in our
arsenal beyond those listed in Ephesians 6. The Bible does not always use the military metaphor,
but many of the virtues and gifts listed throughout Scripture are still mighty weapons for warfare.
