The Art of Insubordination: How to Dissent and Defy Effectively With Todd Kashdan When I first received the book The Art of Insubordination: How to Dissent and Defy Effectively by my guest on today's show, Todd Kashdan, I thought it was going to be some fringe rebel handbook or something like TheAlchemist's Cookbook, or a title that was meant to incite riots and violence. Mental Health Miniseries: Kayla McBride

For Kayla McBride, basketball was never just a game.It was an escape from her childhood traumas and subsequent mental health struggles. But when sports came to a halt during the pandemic, she was forced to face the woman behind the athlete. On the final episode of our three-part mental health miniseries, the WNBA vet takes us on her journey toward healing, starting with the decision to put her story in the public eye. She speaks candidly about the challenges of vulnerability and its sweet wins: a closer bond with her family and a happier relationship with her sport. She also discusses how becoming part of the mental health conversation helped show others — and herself — that athletes are more than a number on a jersey or an end-of-season stat. Listen and learn why letting your guard down, and  giving others space to do the same, can lead to a world where mental health takes higher priority.Learn MoreRead the Instagram post that started

Reflecting is one of those things we hear successful people talk about but rarely actually take time to do ourselves. Reflecting does not need to be reserved for big life events or lessons; when employed daily, weekly or monthly, we give ourselves the chance to notice our own behavior, thought patterns and can learn from our mistakes. It also gives us proof of all the amazing things going well. So what questions can we ask to make reflections most effective? In this episode we go over four groups of questions you can ask yourself for different reflecting purposes that will help you get to know yourself better and move forward into the new year with maximized perspective. I don’t know about you all, but I love Ted Lasso. In the episode Ryan and I were watching last night, he talked about people underestimating him his entire life. And how he didn’t understand it, but then saw a quote by Walt Whitman “Be curious not judgmental.”After seeing that quote, he realized that everyone was judging and no one was curious and that is why they constantly underestimated him.I won’t spoil the outcome of the scene for those of you who haven’t seen it.But that whole scene I thought was so powerful for so many reasons.Too often we hold ourselves back in our lives because we AREN’T curious. We simply judge. We judge people and situations over wondering why they are occurring.I so often even see it in the troll comments I get.In the way people only accept one “right way” of doing a move or of approaching nutrition. They aren’t curious, they WANT to judge. And because of that, they’ll always stay stuck. We need to be open to opportunities if we w

Imagine this scenario. You’re 30 pounds overweight, and in fact you’ve been overweight pretty much all of your adult life. Perhaps you’ve lost some or all of this weight several times in the last 25 years. The times you’ve tried dieting have been awful. You were constantly hungry, you were cranky, and a few weeks into it your sleep started to deteriorate, only making matters worse. You started to despise the treadmill. But you stuck with it through sheer determination and willpower. And you lost the weight and finally got to return to some sense of normalcy. But a year later you are right back where you started. And perhaps you start the cycle all over again. You feel frustrated and defeated, perhaps you’ve internalized your failure to permanently lose this excess weight as your personal failure. But you’ve decided that this time is going to be different. New year, new you. Instead of following a diet you found online, or one tha

An interesting saying you hear over and over again is that “the game is all mental”, or it is “90% mental” by many elite athletes.  Although there are general physical standards to be successful in many sports (think of the body type of a runner or a jumper, or the long arms that are very helpful in making it to the NBA) it is impo

Fit Father Project Podcast

Fit Father Project

If you’re a busy guy in your 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, chances are you have heard that you can no longer reap the benefits of the days of your youth. Society has told you that it’s not possible for you to stay lean, stay fit, and have the exuberance and energy you once felt and had as a young man. These constant messages are telling us that it's ok to not be our best selves. We don’t have to try or stay hungry as we once did when we were young. We no longer have anything to prove to ourselves. These messages are also contributing to a larger problem we are not addressing. Obesity. In the U.S., today, nearly 50% of all men over 40 are obesity. Being overweight and out of shape is the number one contributor to early death. And today more men are passing away at younger ages than ever before. Cancer diagnoses in men are escalating. Men are being put on prescription meds for blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease at younger ages. And more families are losing fathers and husbands by the day. Obesity is the enemy, the one that sits on the top of the hill peering down at us from afar. We have allowed for far too long to let ourselves lose. To take the hill is no easy task. There are no quick fixes. There are no hacks or shortcuts to winning this battle to a better and more healthy life. The only way to win is to work. Every day, little by little. And with the right methods, tools, and strategies, together we can help you stand tall against the enemy of obesity and mediocrity and take back your life. Hi, I’m Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, CEO of The Fit Father Project and Host of this show, the Fit Father Project Podcast. For the last 10 years, my team and I have perfected a health and weight loss system designed exclusively For Men Over 40. 40,000 men in over 100 countries have come through Fit Father Project ready to take on their own hill and conquer their enemies. And now it’s time we help you with yours. On this podcast, we’re going to cover tactics and strategies to help you wage war against your enemy such as - How to increase your testosterone to build age-defying muscle - How to make healthy eating simple and sustainable. - How to become the best version of yourself. My commitment to you is to set you up for success. Truth be told, there will be times your mind will tell you to take it easy, to go back to unhealthy habits. There will be times that the daily stresses of life will make you feel like the only way to deal with it is to eat your favorite junk food meal. There will be times you will feel satisfied with where you are and give up because you’re content. But together on this podcast, we will stay the course and conquer the hill. To get the latest episodes of the Fit Father Project Podcast, follow us on Apple, Spotify, and or wherever you get your podcast and turn your notifications on so you know when a new episode drops. For both of us, what keeps our own practices fresh and fun after all these years is creating a more accessible practice for our students.  Yoga is a mirror that all of us need in order to take a good, long look at ourselves — not just as individuals but as a society and a community. Unfortunately, the yoga practice is intimidating. It can seem impossible when you see yogis bending backward with ease, but the practice is more than just the asanas. The asanas can be modified for beginners, yogis with injuries, and older yoga students so that everyone can get closer to the heart of the practice.  Because the heart of yoga is our community. For Shakira, a woman who was born and raised in Jamaica, her motto has always been “Out Of Many, One Peopl

Fit Mother Project Podcast

Fit Mother Project

It is no secret that Mothers are truly the unsung heroes of today’s families. The amount of work, errands, tasks, and support mothers do day in and day out is never-ending. It’s keeping the household and family running. It’s planning birthday parties and family activities. It’s running to the grocery store while waiting to pick up the dry cleaning. It’s making sure the kids and spouse have everything they need… often putting themselves and their health last. It can feel like an Invisible Burden... an evergrowing weight carried on the shoulders of many moms. And our society expects mothers to carry this load without question. What happens when we carry additional weight…? Our bodies are stressed and challenged in a magnitude of ways that can lead to stress, poor health. The Invisible Burden can lead to weight gain, constant low energy, hormone imbalance. It can lead to being stretched beyond reach. What’s worse is that hardworking mothers like you bearing this burden, are often not seen or acknowledged for carrying the contributions and the acts of the family. If you’re a stay-at-home mom, society often expects you to carry the invisible burden without question. If you’re a working mom, you’re also expected to carry the invisible burden just as much while working to provide an income to your family. You have so many important things pulling you in different directions that it often means you put yourself… and your health… last. I’m Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, Founder, and CEO of the Fit Mother Project and the host of this podcast… and I get all of this. Growing up… my dad died when I was 9 years old… and my mom became a widow with two young boys… and she had to fight to raise us and keep our family together. I started the Fit Mother Project and created this podcast with the sole purpose of helping create stronger and more powerful mothers through losing weight without restrictive diets, crazy workouts, or the image of “being perfect.” Our Fit Mother team has helped over 10,000 women become a stronger more fit version of themselves and we know this podcast will help you do the same on your journey to a better you. You can take care of your family and work… and still make time for yourself and your health. I’ll show you how XYZ. It’s time for you to put yourself and your health first. To get notified of new episodes, follow the Fit Mother Project Podcast on Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever else you get your Podcasts. FitChic for Life

Natalie Newhart

A perfect blend of science and mindset. FitChic for Life is the podcast for women 30+ who are asking the questions: Why don’t diets work for me anymore? How do I create a healthy peace with food? How do I make going to the gym something I want to do instead of something I have to do? Host and former pro athlete, Natalie Newhart, uses her experiences as a female fat-loss expert and mindset guru, to teach women the skills they need to master their body and mind. “Expect to hear things that you don’t typically hear in the nutrition space. Nat’s non-traditional approach to health and fitness and her no-B.S. attitude makes this podcast exactly what you didn’t know you’ve been looking for.”

The Secret to Strengthening Your Lower Back and Eliminating Lower Back Pain

We are replaying one of our most popular episodes for you this week!   In part two of the interview with Dr. James Fisher, we explore what it takes to actually strengthen the lower back and why exercises like the deadlift are not effective in targeting your lower back muscles. Find out how some people can experience significant lower back strength gain in as little as ten weeks with only 15 total minutes of muscle tension (60 to 90 seconds per week!) and why stretching without strength training can actually make your lower back pain worse. The lower back is a notoriously difficult to train muscle group, which is why so many people are walking around with weak lower backs that are easy to injure and irritate. Fisher did some research with professional athletes to measure the effectiveness of certain exercises in strengthening the lower back and found that exercises that didn’t isolate the lower back

WTWD: Illusion vs. Optimism & Recap of the Thank Ride

Welcome to episode 100's weekly thoughts with Derek (Me!)...aka WTWD. This is an episode where I deviate away from the tactical side of riding and give you my opinions and thoughts in hopes of sparking a new found motivation inside of you. In this episode, I start off by sharing the quote, "There is a thin line between optimism and illusion." My co-host Amber and I dive deep into our thoughts on this, including how you know the difference between the two. Then, I dive deep into a recap of our Thank Ride we had on thanksgiving. I give you a play-by-play on all the planning and effort that went into it, as well as how the ride unfolded.

Running on Optimism

Sonia Rita

Hi. My name is Sonia Rita. I'm an amateur mother runner chasing my first 26.2 (despite being thwarted by canceled races due to COVID) fueled by coffee, "I love you's" from my little one, and of course optimism. But "the why" behind my fitness journey is the sweet spot where we can connect, and through my podcast, share inspirational conversations with every day runners like myself and others in wellness about finding optimism despite challenges.

Courageous Fit Female - Get Fit & Find Body Freedom God's Way

Jaclyn Castro

Sisters! If you are ready to blast through your excuses, start stepping into true fulfillment and strengthen your confidence in Christ as we define and RE-establish your fitness - not just in your physical health and your mindset but also in your faith as a woman over forty - then Courageous Fit Female is for you! Hi, I’m Jaclyn Castro! At one point in my life it was pure vanity because all I cared about was abs, buns, and guns. Eventually, I fell into a food trap where food was my idol. But all I could think about was “how do I stop being a slave to food?” I wanted food freedom! I tried to fix things by using my own knowledge and self-will. I tried doing it the world’s way by using quick tips, “proven” tricks, strategies, fancy formulas and investing in signature systems that came from trusted fitness experts that claimed it was the answer. Ultimately, God opened my spiritual eyes and I realized that my food fixation was a heart issue. This podcast show was created for you if you can relate because I noticed the ONE missing component in fitness programs is GOD’S WORD. As a Christian and lover of Jesus I KNOW that God’s word is the ONLY answer to food freedom and worldly strongholds. When the world was telling me to glorify my physical transformation, His word told me to glorify HIM! When others told me that I just needed to have more SELF-CONFIDENCE the truth was that I was full of myself and that I was living WITHOUT Christ-confidence! On this fitness journey I’ve learned to lean on God’s word over physical appearance and the lie that my worthiness was in my body or how I look. There IS MORE to fitness than just dumbbells, burpees, and abs. Courageous Fit Female is a podcast show that’s a safe platform for you to focus on not just physical health but above all to focus on the entire temple that God has gifted us with from head-to-toe and everything in between. God has called me to step into this space to help you be a Courageous Fit Female by partnering with Him and Him alone. I am here to help you treat your body like Jesus’s temple, to renew your mind by stepping into your God given purpose, and to center your attention on spiritual fitness as you go through this marathon with Christ! How to Fix Your Chronic Diarrhoea

Today, we’re talking about diarrhoea. An unconventional podcast topic, for sure - but also an extremely important one. Diarrhoea affects almost everyone at some point. It’s one of the most common symptoms that something in our gut is not right. In most cases it’s transitory and we move on - but what do you do if it doesn’t just go away? We’ve touched on this topic before while talking about The Athlete’s Gut, but today we’re taking a closer look at this all-too-common issue. On today’s podcast, NBT Scientific Director and Coach Megan Hall is with me to talk about diarrhoea: the different types, the many causes, and how to fix it when it occurs. She talks about how diarrhoea is both a cause and consequence of gut (and sometimes systemic) pathologies and describes ten different things that may be perpetuating the problem. Most importantly, Megan offers specifics on what you can do to identify and treat your ongoing gut problem. Be sure to foll
