Adaptogenic beauty brand Deon Libra reduces stress from the inside out

From tragedy can come opportunity. When Devin’s father passed from a stress induced heart attack, she found herself anxiety ridden and unable to sleep properly for years. In coping with her loss, she began experimenting with adaptogens to calm her own body and mind. Creating body butters and teas from home, she discovered a new approach to beauty from the inside out. Frustrated that Black customers seem to be an afterthought in the beauty market, she set out to create Deon Libra, a brand that caters to the naturally higher stress levels of people in her own community. With her co-founder and COO, Brit Kirkland, Devin found a home for her nascent brand at Dyrdek Machine. Recorded in December of 2021, this episode was recorded shortly after Rob and the Deon Libra founders met in person for the first time. Website: IG: @deonlibrabody Learn more about this episode.

How to Build a Thriving Software Company (From Scratch)

Most businesses today use some kind of software to run their business, and starting a software company lets entrepreneurs capitalize on this trend. Looking back at the venture market of one year ago

The show is largely off this week, which means that we don't have our usual deluge of new startup news covered for you. But, we didn't want to leave you with nothing at all on this lovely Friday, so we went to the time machine to see what we could find. The episode in the feed today is the same episode we put out nearly exactly one year ago today (June 11, 2021) to give some flavor and context to what was going on a now a year past. The idea was that we've spent so much time talking about how 2022 is shaping up to be different than 2021, so why not go back and show the distinction? hope you like our fun little experiment. Building a Successful Ecommerce Partnership

Partnerships in any kind of business can be hard to navigate. But what about building a successful ecommerce partnership—is it just as challenging?  And what if your partner was your mom or your child? Yeah. Let that one sink in. Well, today on the podcast I welcome mother-and-daughter duo Diane Kesinger and Brenna Potash. They’ve worked together to make their business—Bee + Me—a success both in terms of earnings and great customer relationships. Diane and her husband have been long-time entrepreneurs. One of the things I absolutely, cartwheels-inside-my-chest LOVE about their story is that they had their kids work with them in their business and now see the benefits from that choice. It’s something I can relate to, as my kids have worked right alongside me (and when it comes to my girls, they even started their own online store!) Kids learn so dang much about hard work. What I also really appreciate is how Diane and Brenna complem

#120 - What should you do if product shows up from your supplier and it's unsellable?

In this episode, I discuss a question asked by one of my coaching students: What should you do if the product that was shipped by your supplier is different from what you were expecting?    When it comes to sourcing from overseas, the most important thing is to communicate with your supplier exactly what you want them to do. Don’t assume that they know how you want your finished product looks like. Best thing to do is to send them photos and videos of how you want your products to look like and when they’re done manufacturing, ask them for a lot of photos and videos as well. This helps you set expectations for when your shipment arrives.   ✅ Download My FBA Starter Pack:   ? Get 50% OFF My Weekly Mastermind: ? CODE: FIRSTMONTHFIFTY   ? Save BIG on Jungle Scout:

056: Are You Talking About Your Subscription Box Enough?

Every month, I go LIVE inside my coaching membership, Launch Your Box, to open members’ subscription boxes and provide feedback. Last month, I opened some incredible boxes. I was so impressed with the creativity and care these members put into curating an experience for their subscribers, just like I taught them. What I wasn’t impressed with was how low their subscriber numbers were. With boxes that good, their numbers should have been much higher.    It was time to dig into what was holding them back. So I asked a question. And it got my members squirming. It wasn’t a difficult question, but it was an important one.    I asked them to look back at the past month and count how many times they’d talked about their subscription boxes on social media. Then, I gave them a grade based on their responses. The bad news? Many of them failed!    I know you may feel like you’re talking about your subscription box all the time,

How to Get Up After You Fall Down with Scott Hamilton, Olympic Gold Medalist

Today's guest is Scott Hamilton, an Olympic gold medalist and founder of the Scott Hamilton Cares Foundation, an organization that is working to eliminate cancer. Now, Scott obviously doesn't need much of an introduction. You already know about his gold medal and figure skating. You probably have seen his incredible backflips on the ice. And you have likely watched him as a commentator on the Olympics over the years. And while you may know him for his successes, you may not know about the challenges that he's had to overcome to win. His childhood illness, cancer, multiple brain tumors, the times he's fallen on the ice in critical situations. Scott says any goal will always have obstacles, difficulties and setbacks. You will be defined not by those setbacks, but by how you respond to them. There's so much that we can learn from Scott about how to get up after we all fall and let me tell you something

115. A genius Brand Content strategy

A few months ago Blue Cobalt shared their genius Branded content strategy in the Inner circle, and when I saw what he had done, I knew it was so good that everyone should have the chance to try this. A bit of a back story. I met Blue earlier this year when we reviewed their site for 15 Minute Feedback.  On the episode we tasked Blue with finding a way to show their amazing creations on real models instead of mannequins. Like most of us, Blue didn’t have a big budget for a photoshoot, so they got creative. That creativity paid off in spades! Listen in and learn how Blue was able to put together an amazing photo shoot at a beautiful location with perfect models for only a few hundred dollars. It’s incredible! Blue walked away with almost 3,000 images and hours of video content that can be sliced up and used on the website, for reels, video posts, email content, and TikTok. I know that many store owners struggle to get images and videos that

BUT FIRST, SHE FAILED - Career Growth, Women Entrepreneurs, Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, Growth Mindset, Confidence

Paola Soares | Growth Mindset Coach, Career Growth Mentor, Christian Woman

Do you ever struggle with imposter syndrome when it comes to your career or business? Wish you had unshakable confidence no matter who’s in the meeting?Ever wonder how those wildly successful women got to where they are today? What if I told you that every one of them had moments of “failure” would failure seem less scary to you? What if Failure is part of the journey towards success and purpose? Welcome to the BUT FIRST, SHE FAILED podcast. In this podcast you will learn practical tips on how to develop the boss woman within you to excel with confidence in your career and business. Hear candid conversations with trailblazing women that are dominating in their fields as industry leaders, entrepreneurs, influencers and more. Learn as they share wisdom, strategies and get vulnerable about how moments of “failure” propelled them to where they are today. Hi! I’m Paola Soares:) I’m a former Journalist and National News Producer that has had stories appear on Univision, Telemundo ABC News among others. While working in news my favorite stories were always profile pieces that helped and inspired. I started this podcast because I’m passionate about helping women gain confidence in their careers, businesses and overcome the fear failing that many times can be holding them back from living the life of their dreams. Because I’ve been there. I remember: + being in meetings with CEO’s, Anchors, and other high level bosses and being too nervous and second guessing myself so much that I wouldn’t speak up and share an idea that I really felt was a great one. + Thinking that I was nothing like those boss women that I looked up, that they had never struggled and I was the only one that had setbacks. + Being let go from what I thought was dream job and feeling like like I was a "failure" and struggling to move past it till I had a life-changing realization. Now I’m taking my love of story telling and combining it with something that is on my heart, helping women overcome fear of failing and gain confidence when it comes to their careers, businesses and callings. Stop second guessing yourself and become the boss woman that deep down inside you know you are supposed to become. Shake off that discouragement, it’s not too late, you are not behind! If you are ready for your boss-woman breakthrough this podcast is for you! Get ready to get inspired!

Do I still need to include it in the gross profit? Find out what your hourly rate should be because you have to charge for the field labor, recover overhead, and then make a profit. Many people charge double their hourly rate. But if you are charging twice for overhead and profit, you are making your prices way higher than they need to be. Use the job costing sheet instead of the charge sheet.   Question2: How do you deal with estimates with the way materials are all over the place price-wise?  If you get a deposit and have a shop, you can buy th

Hey Friend!
If you struggle to find rest (like me....) let's take a seat and chat. I know how it feels to be resistant to rest and how hard it is to STOP when you're trying to grow a business, keep up with the kids, do housework, and make time for God. It's all too much sometimes, right?
Did you know God desires rest for us? Did you know He even said that the land needed to rest (Leviticus 25:4)? Our God isn't a slave-driver; He is a caring and loving father who wants us to experience joy... peace... and His blessings.
If we are too busy to stop and find rest in Him - how can we truly see or hear from Him?
Today I am sharing 3 ways to find rest without losing momentum in your business - even if you are scared to rest. I know these will bless you.
I pray this finds you right on time.

On this episode, we’re talking about the push for more representation of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in entertainment. First, we hear from musician Charlene Kaye, also known as KAYE, about how the lack of Asian American artists she had to look up to growing up forced her to shy away from her identity. Charlene shares how she is now furthering the conversation through music, and her podcast, Golden Hour. Then, host Carla Harris sits down with Bing Chen, the founder of non-profit Gold House, to learn how he has spent the last four years putting community and capital behind AAPI representation, helping drive the success of films such as Crazy Rich Asians, Parasite and Minari. Disclaimer textThe guest speakers are neither employees nor affiliated with Morgan Stanley & Co. 263 Kim Scott & Trier Bryant: The Invisible Tax of Workplace Bias

We've covered bias in previous episodes, but this week we tackle it head-on — specifically, how our language choices affect people, and the difference between bias, prejudice, and bullying. Kim Scott is a coach to some of Silicon Valley's most influential CEOs, and known for her groundbreaking book Radical Candor, about the complexity of giving critical feedback, even when it's hard. Trier Bryant is the CEO of Just Work, a consultancy specializing in identifying harmful bias and injustice in the workplace, and providing the tools to overcome it. Together, they help employees and managers develop a shared vocabulary so everyone feels safe to say, "that word/phrase is not OK." It's a crucial, but often missing step on the path toward true diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's harder than it seems, but making the effort to own your language — even during this very interview — is a great first step.

The ‘post-COVID’ location independent summer is beginning. We’re seeing more and more posts in the DC forum that begin: ‘Who’s in Medellin this month?’, ‘Anyone in Poland or the Balkans’.

With that in mind we’ve asked Kyla Gardner and Jesse Schoberg - both of whom have lived in Bangkok, and other places in Thailand, and attended a fair few DCBKKs - to share their thoughts.
We’ll cover: where to stay in Bangkok for a great vibe and delicious food, where to consider going after DCBKK, how to manage your time around events like DCBKK, and much more:

Better Than Big

Ashley Gartland

Ashley Gartland isn't your typical business coach. She cares more about creating time freedom for you than she does about helping you do more or hustle harder or scale faster. And on Better Than Big, she's bringing you transparent conversations with real small business owners who've figured out how to run simple, sustainable businesses that match their definition of success and free up their time for what's most important. In each conversation, Ashley and her guests explore the shifts they've made to their services, schedule, systems, team and personal habits so they can work less and live more. They talk about the decisions they’ve made, the things they’ve said no to and the choices and tradeoffs they’ve weighed to create a business that deeply serves their life and provides them with time for their families, health, personal development, hobbies and more.
