#426: 62% Of Top Business Executives Do This & You Should Too!

Learn To Trust Your Gut In Business In this quick episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on one of the hardest lessons I’ve learned as an entrepreneur. It’s not having hard conversations. Not making revenue projections. Not keeping a tidy to-do list or a pretty project plan. In this episode, I’m talking about trusting your gut as an entrepreneur. Which is a tall order. But it’s also a non-negotiable in entrepreneurship. So after 13 years of running my own online business, I’m sharing how I’ve l

313. When You Can’t Afford Ads, Do This

Anyone who’s run any sort of ads in the last couple of years (or just pays attention to marketing industry news) will know that Facebook recently went through a huge iOS change and ads no longer perform the way they used to. So what other options are there for marketing, either without Facebook or on a budget?
Your social media strategy can practically become a form of advertising on its own, not to mention leveraging your own personal network and, of course, taking advantage of the Shop 1 in 5™ Pledge.
But our favorite alternative to running ads is: collaborating. Collaborations can be paid, but the best ones take the form of a mutual exchange where you and someone else both give each other something and get something back of value in return. Maybe you’re an online-only business who can collaborate with a brick and mortar shop by running a pop-up in their shop for a day. Or maybe you want to team up with another business to

In this candid conversation, Carlos shares what he’s learned along the way. From surviving the violence he faced growing up in Miami, to stumbling into what would change his life forever (spoiler alert: graphic design).
Beyond his origin story, Chris and Carlos also discuss his business’ ethos and its unique creative contracts. Contracts that have stirred up controversy with some calling them arrogant, pompous, and even combative.
But those words don’t matter to Carlos. Because if he’s not for you, that’s okay. At least he owns who he is.

Vol.50

How To Best Use The New Instagram Story Link Stickers

SMMS #227 - For years now the only way to share links on Instagram have been through the single link displayed on your profile, or via the swipe up feature on Instagram stories. Unfortunately, the swipe up feature was only available to creators who were either verified or had over 10,000 followers. PepsiCo’s Fabiola Torres on making Rockstar Energy relevant with gamers young and old

Energy drinks are in the midst of a renaissance.
According to Fabiola Torres, CMO and svp of PepsiCo’s energy drinks category -- which includes big brands like Rockstar -- the renaissance is about finding who the core customer is. Her focus, she said on the Modern Retail Podcast is to “really go deep into storytelling, making sure that our products continue to get better and better.”
Torres joined the PepsiCo team in April 2020, right when the pandemic hit. Before, she worked at high-end brands like Beats By Dre and Nike.
In her eyes, she was excited about leading the marketing for a ubiquitous product that still resonated with unique subcultures. That’s no easy task, however. Energy drinks have a bunch of connotations, and their popularity has risen and fallen like changing tides. But as gaming platforms continue to reach new users, and with Gen Z being such a driving force

Gift Keywords_ The Good, The Bad, The Ugly For Amazon Sellers

Gift Keywords: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly   Gift keywords can be like hitting the lottery and whilst you should explore and test it would be silly to bank on this without a clear path laid with core keywords. I know of brands that were able to do well with this in the kids category and had a real knack of finding the right gift keywords to their products and had a strong hit rate. I have also seen sellers try to pivot to gift keywords as they used broadly related keywords in a niche whereby their product(s) fall between the stools.   Why can gift keywords be problematic? That is the topic of today! ___________________________________________________ Grab Tickets for Seller Sessions Live Brought to you by Thrasio on May 7, 2022 Featuring: Ivelin Demirov, Tim Jordan, Destaney Wishon, Adam Heist and many more Hosted by: Danny McMillan, Sharon Even, and Izabela Hamilton Grab Tickets at: https://live.sellersessi

Is This The Future? Great Practical Examples of the Beginning of the Metaverse

The metaverse. It is supposed to be a digital world. Some say it will combine social media and virtual reality (VR), like a more complex VR chat. Some say it will be the next level of online interaction where anything can happen. Others are confused by what it is and what it means. Some call it Mark Zuckerberg’s pipe dream. We think it is the future of Customer Experiences.  Immersive experiences are part of the metaverse, leveraging the power of augmented reality (AR) and VR. While they have to this point largely been dominated by games and entertainment, these immersive technologies are poised to change how people interact with brands’ products and services in more everyday ways.  In this episode, we invited Dobrian Dobrev (@DobrianDobrev), a User Experience Designer and a speaker at UX conferences and author on UX Design and Information Architecture  to tell us how the metaverse will change thi

One of the very special parts about the conference is that I was able to be there with 10 of the women in my upLIFT Mentormind. It was basically a ‘pinch me’ kind of moment when I got to sit at dinner with these women--many of whom I had only interacted with online--and share dreams, stories, laughter, and tears together. 31. The Etsy pricing tactic that's hurting your shop

The episode today is going to be half rant and half advice because as we get into a really busy time of year, I've seen this advice popping up more and more often and I want to make sure that we address this right now.
It is never okay to price yourself so you're not making a profit.  This advice actually makes me angry.  The premise was this, when you're just starting off it's okay to price low and make no profit so you can get your first couple of sales. The idea is that you have a low price to stand out against your competition who has reviews and stuff like that to back them up.
But I hate this so much. You can stand out above your competition on Etsy in other ways. You can get sales from Etsy traffic and from your social media traffic without competing on price.  Listen to the episode to learn more.
