Ashes to Ashes

The Telegraph

Mike Hussey and Geraint Jones, Adelaide 2006

In the fifth episode of Ashes to Ashes, former England wicket-keeper Geraint Jones and ‘Mr Cricket’, Australia’s Michael Hussey, look back at the incredible second Test in Adelaide from the 2006-07 series and the unlikeliest of wins. England recovered strongly from defeat in the opening Test, declaring on 551/6. But, Australia replied with 513 and England collapsed in the second innings - losing their last nine wickets for 60 runs, allowing the hosts to knock off 168 runs in quick time to take a 2-0 lead. Hussey recalls the team talk from captain Ricky Ponting that injected Australia with belief they could win, while Jones dissects where it all went wrong on the final day in a Test that paved the way for an Australia whitewash. Narrated by Chief Sports Writer Paul Hayward, and introduced by Cricket Correspondent Scyld Berry with commentary provided by Sky Sports.

6: Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur is a man who loves a challenge, no matter where it is. As head coach of South Africa, Australia, Pakistan and now Sri Lanka he has seen it all, and been on his own personal rollercoaster ride. He tells me how he felt he was made a scapegoat for 'Homeworkgate' when he was sacked by Cricket Australia, and how he fell in love with working in Asia. All this has come at a cost though, and Mickey is also frank about the loneliness of being a travelling coach and how you must sacrifice your personal life to do the job properly. But his passion to help his players is what really shines through during our chat - by the end of it you will feel like Mickey is the only coach you would ever want to play for!

John Buchanan - If Better Is Possible

John Buchanan was the coach of arguably the greatest cricket team ever.

He took over as the head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team after they had won the 1999 world cup and set about making them a team that dominated world cricket for the next 8 years.

With two more world cup wins in 2003 and 2007 along with test series wins all around the world as well as becoming the first team to score over 400 in a 50 ODI, not to mention all the legends of Aussie cricket that were part of the team during these years and a whole host of other records, all make JB coaching career a phenomenal story.

During this conversation, we explore these years as well as his ideas around coaching, which can all be encapsulated in the simple phrase... if better is possible.

His coaching methods set trends that are still being used in coaching today.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson | 'Sport has the Power to Change the World'

Tanni Grey-Thompson was born with spina bifida and subsequently became paralysed at the age of 7. Six years later, inspired by Paralympic legend Chris Hallam, Tanni began wheelchair racing and instantly fell in love with the sport. Tanni had won her first race within three years of starting, and just two years after that, Tanni won the London Wheelchair Marathon. This was the first in a long list of competitive wheelchair successes, and a testament to the mental strength required to overcome hardship and to compete at the very highest level of sport.
At the age of just 19, Tanni competed at the Seoul Paralympic Games and took bronze for the 200m. From that point onwards, having had a taste for the Games and the intense training process it demands, Tanni set her sights on achieving more success; which she certainly did.
In 1992 at the Barcelona Games, Tanni elevated herself to the w

No Balls Cricket Unfiltered: Episode 34

We've come to the realization that our podcast is sort of a cricketing grim reaper. Apparently, the two of us, without even trying, have an outsized influence on events in the cricket world, an influence that ends up having some severe repercussions on high-profile cricketing figure (again, please remember that this is without us actually trying).
Why do we think this? Well. Our episode releases just happen to have coincided with resignations and sackings in the last few months. So we've decided to give ourselves an award...along with handing one to Kevin Pietersen. But, before that, there's an actual episode to get through, one where we talk about all those England and Australia resignations and sackings. We promise we take this newfound great power we've discovered with great responsibility. (Was that a deliberate Spider-Man reference, or did we just stumble upon it? We're revealing nothing.)
As always, listen and sub
