They begin in the earliest recorded periods, discussing what the mounted arm brought to ancient warfare. They then trace its development through the early-modern and Napoleonic eras before explaining the effects on cavalry of motorization, mechanization, and armor. Along the way, they explain basic cavalry concepts like screening and scouting, shock, and the petite guerre.
