Episode 12 - Jennings on Texas Frontier Cavalry

Release Date:

Dr. Nate Jennings talks to Dr. Jonathan Abel, joined by Dr. Bill Nance, about cavalry on the Texas frontier.  He outlines how the cavalry tradition began with the first American settlers there; their relationship with the local Comanche, Apache, and other indigenous groups; and how that evolved into a cavalry tradition that paid dividends in the Texas War of Independence.  He then discusses how the Texas cavalry tradition was invaluable in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War, and how it influences cavalry practice and doctrine in the present.
