Supt. Brown Promises More Resources

The promise of more resources for districts made by Chicago Police Superintendent Superintendent David Brown is pure politics as he attempts to combat criticism from union officials and the media about his creation of roving citywide units that have "stolen" resources from local districts.



The most craven part of this effort is Brown knows that even his citywide units are going to fail at their mission just like they would if those resources were left in the district. The union and the media's comments about district resources stem from a false belief that the police play a far greater role in reducing crime and violence then they really do. This of course makes sense if you are the union because pushing this belief allows you to maintain high staffing levels within the Chicago Police Department despite any science to show that those resources actually have an impact on crime and violence. The media has no excuse making such unverified claims of the impact of these resources on crime and violence in Chicago. They are just parroting union claims about resources.
