Seizing Opportunities and Taking Risks

I began working in the field at 14, not knowing it would shape my future. The opportunity came through someone who saw potential in me, and I embraced it. The early years were challenging, filled with self-performing tasks and learning the ropes. Over time, I realized the importance of seizing opportunities and taking risks, fundamental principles that have guided my journey.

Navigating the Initial Years

The initial years were tough, juggling everything from invoicing to hands-on tasks. I started with basic projects, gradually shifting towards cabinetry and millwork. Delegating tasks and building a reliable team became essential. It took time to understand the importance of teamwork and effective leadership.

Building a Team and Business Model

Currently, we have 14 full-time team members, divided between the field and the shop. The business model involves three main components: renovation, custom home building, and cabinetry/millwork. Each aspect complements the others, creating a balanced and versatile approach to our work.

Reflecting on Noteworthy Projects

One project that stands out is a multi-year renovation that showcased our skills and attention to detail. Having a robust portfolio became crucial, allowing clients to see the quality and uniqueness of our work. Confidence in our abilities and the ability to articulate our processes played a pivotal role in establishing trust with clients.

The Importance of Personal Connection

Personal connection is vital in our industry, considering the significant investments clients make. Relatability and empathy play a role in understanding their dreams and concerns. Building a connection goes beyond merely telling clients what they want to hear; it's about being honest and transparent, ultimately leading to satisfied customers.
