With the avian flu being in the news this Spring, and the culling of millions of chickens, it got us thinking again about the poultry industry again. More specifically, about chicken manure- where it comes from and where it's going. I did some research into the industry and my findings were shocking, and confusing.We wanted to bring back Milo Shammas, the founder of Dr. Earth, to help us understand this topic more thoroughly.If chickens are being fed GMO corn and soy, how is it then that their manure would qualify as an organic input ingredient for fertilizers and compost? Are "organic" farms contaminated with GMO by-products? Is this a small, or a large problem?
