Mayor Lightfoot’s Snitch Fund

Mayor Lightfoot established a fund to incentivize people from the community to come forward and provide tips on people that possess guns illegally. At initial blush the fund doesn't seem like the horrific program it is but once you spend some time thinking about it you understand that the fund is ripe for abuse from the community and most likely will just result in a huge spike in minority contact with the police. Many of which could be instigated by rivals in the community seeking revenge and not to serve the intended purposes of taking guns off the street.



This move by the Mayor is intendend not as an effective strategy for taking guns off the street but rather to make it look like the Mayor's office and the Chicago Police Department are dong everything they can. The creation of this fund is for all intensive purposes a part of a propaganda campaign by the Mayor to reduce the political heat she is taking for the spike in violence in Chicago since the start of the pandemic. The fund did get massive media attention so it is very possible that the fund may have already served it purposes regardless of how it actually plays out in reality.



The Mayor is taking heat from all sides about the violence in Chicago and her never ending campaign to basically flip flop on every single progressive campaign promise she made. This podcast is publishing just as the the Chicago City Council is getting set to vote on what is believed to be the final version of the community commission ordinance. Something candidate Lightfoot promised to pass in her first 100 days in office. As she is now quickly approaching 800 days in office the Mayor may finally get the ordinance passed. The only problem is in true Lightfoot style the ordinance is so weak as to be virtually worthless. This new fund created by the Mayor is also weak and virtually worthless. I am seeing a pattern emerging in Mayor Lightfoot's administration.
