Episode 44 -- The MLB Players Association Pt. 1

Release Date:

A timely episode of a baseball history podcast?  That's right, we're hitting hard here at Cheapseat Baseball.  We call Rob Manfred Doug for some reason.  The Josh tells Tom about the early history of the MLB Players' Association.  At first there was no players' union, then failed efforts to unionize, failed efforts to form their own leagues (including a diversion into bad 1800s team names). After a while, there was a union in name only, before the owners overplayed their hand and drove the players to elect one Marvin Miller to be the President of the Players' Association. The first episode in a four-part series. Sources include: SABR, Wikipedia, Cardinal Nation, Virginia.edu, Marcnormandin.com, Economic History, Beyondtheboxscore.com
