What is the photographers intention?

Release Date:

Intention is the point of all photography. How do you intend for your work to look? The intention of the photographer starts with the idea, concept and composition of the image and its carried all the way through to the final printed work. Photography today has changed in some ways because we tend to publish our work for screen-based devices, but the intention of the photographer - or your intent shouldn't be sacrificed.

William Eggleston, Ernst Haas, Luigi Ghirri and Saul Leiter were all color photographers with different styles and different looks to their work. They represent the best photographers of their time. Yet they all shot on Kodachrome. So why does their work look vastly different from one another yet they were using the same film stock? The answer is in the intent. Each had a unique intention to how their work would look, what it would say and how it would communicate to the viewer. The answer is in the printing stage of photography. This is where decisions were made that created unique works.
