It’s not enough to just keep moving. To reduce injuries in sports, we have to teach our kids the right method of running. Tune in to learn more!Timestamps of big takeaways[00:40] Coach Valerie shares that she recently got to train kids in running. She explains that she really enjoys teaching kids because they’re more open to learning.[00:55] The other interesting thing about kids is they haven’t learned as many bad movement habits as adults have.[01:57] Running is natural. When we are little we have no fear of falling. We just free fall, but as we get older we get scared.[02:55] Kids mimic movements. Unfortunately, kids are not taught how to run properly. Yes, running is natural, but when they start mimicking others and they are doing it wrong, they start doing it wrong too.[04:27] The common element in all of the sports kids play is running.[06:41] The pose method prevents injury in cross-country running, and in every sport that involves running.[07:54] A lot of coaches believe that reducing injury is about reducing mileage and tempo, when the reality is, they need to run correctly to avoid injury.[08:56] The funny thing is, when running slow, you’re actually adding more impact to your joints. What we need to do is give our kids the tools to know how to run. That’s more important than the “just keep moving” mindset.[10:35] That’s why Coach Valerie loves working with kids. She gives them the method so they can keep moving, but doing it correctly helps them actually reduce the chance of injury. Luckily, even as adults you can learn too!Rate, Review & Subscribe ReminderDon’t forget to like and subscribe to our show. You can also rate and review our show on Apple Podcasts!
