And an article in May from the LA Times says, in normal times, a convicted sex offender’s request for leniency would have been met with a swift, emphatic “no” from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. But these aren’t normal times in the DA’s office. So when a felon earlier this year asked a judge to reconsider his 73-year sentence, the prosecutor assigned to the case didn’t object. He couldn’t, he explained in a court filing, because his boss, District Attorney George Gascón, wouldn’t allow it, court records show. Still, LA County DA George Gascon has survived two efforts to recall him. In both cases, the petitioners failed to gather the sufficient number of valid signatures.
