Panthers Stifle Sabres Despite Late Comeback Effort, Win 3-2 in Regulation

Release Date:

On today's episode of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The Panthers welcomed in the Buffalo Sabres to town in the middle of their longest wining streak of the season at three. After giving up the first goal, the Panthers would score three unanswered, including two in the first thanks to Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk(PPG). Tkachuk was back after missing Saturday's game against Washington. Florida would stifle the Sabres offense, especially in the second period where after the ice was tilted after a double minor from Jordan Greenway. Despite not scoring, the Panthers were in the Buffalo zone for a good portion of the second frame. This one got to 3-1 when Buffalo was called for a trip and bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Cats a 5-on-3. Brandon Montour would score on a one-timer to ice this game as he got his 10th point in the last 5 games (3,7). Florida would most importantly keep star Tage Thompson in check, but he could only be contained. Thompson would cut the Sabres deficit to one after heading to the net on a facecoff and redirecting Rasmus Dahlin's shot from the point and past Sergei Bobrovsky. Florida's defense would give their fans one of the most exciting closing sequences this season where very little space was given to put the extra attacker on. Panthers closed this out without forward Carter Verhaeghe, who was last seen on the ice with about nine minutes to go in the third. It was too little too late before the Sabres can do any cycling of the puck. The guys give their three stars, when they thought this game was won, and the different script the Panthers had to follow in this one, and an injury update on Verhaeghe.
