In Conversation with Cherie Blair

Contributor(s): Cherie Blair | To mark the completion of the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre, the first brand new building on campus for more than 40 years, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the LSE Students’ Union have organised a series of ‘in conversation’ events with some of the School's distinguished alumni. These events will take place in the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre and will be open to LSE students, alumni and staff. This event will see Cherie Blair in conversation with Professor Julia Black. Wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, leading lawyer and committed campaigner for women’s rights, Cherie founded the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women in 2008 to help women build small and growing businesses in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East so that they can contribute to their economies and have a stronger voice in their societies. She is also Chancellor of the Asian University for Women which seeks to educate girls from within the region to become leaders. Cherie graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a law degree and was called to the Bar in 1976. She became a Queen’s Counsel in 1995 and in 2000 co-founded Matrix Chambers. Cherie is the Co-Founder and Chair of Omnia Strategy LLP, a law firm based in London that provides strategic counsel to government, corporate and private clients. She has over 35 years as a leading barrister specialising in public law, human rights, European Community law and arbitration. Cherie currently also sits as a part-time judge and is an accredited mediator. Cherie was awarded a CBE in the 2013 New Year's Honours List for services to Women's Issues and to charity in the UK and Overseas.
