Col. Nathan C. Green was awarded the Silver Star for his bravery and leadership in carrying out a daring mission near Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan on December 5th, 2001. As the aircraft commander of an AC-130H gunship, he directed his crew through unique partial orbit attacks and defensive maneuvers to successfully defeat two incoming infrared missiles and destroy multiple enemy targets, such as six SA-3 missiles, one truck, three towed artillery pieces and two towed rocket launchers. His gallantry and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
