Join Laura and Marion Barter’s warrior of a daughter, Sally Leydon, as they delve deep into the known facts of the case to uncover what happened to Marion Barter. Mother of two, Marion had been a popular primary school teacher at the Southport school on the Gold Coast when, in March 1997, she suddenly quit her job, sold her house and announced she was going to take a trip of a lifetime to the UK and Europe. On Sunday 22nd June 1997 Marion boarded a plane and left Australia for the UK. Sally received postcards and a call, but she never saw her mother again. Victimology: Laura asks Sally to describe in-depth what her mother Marion was like and what was going on in her life before she decided to board a plane to London.


Timeline: Laura and Sally dissect the months leading up to Marion’s disappearance and what happened thereafter. By October Sally became concerned that she hadn’t heard from her mother and contacted her bank. She discovered money had been electronically transferred from Marion’s account to an unknown account. And then Marion vanished. Laura is convinced the answer lies in the months before Marion left for the UK.


The Why: Sally cannot understand why Marion would remain in contact whilst in England, and then just vanish without a trace, missing her son Owen’s birthday and Sally’s wedding. Laura explains her work is always about the WHY.
