36. Dave Maloney - Founder of the D10 Decathlon

Dave Maloney is the founder of the D10 Decathlon. A former D1 track athlete at the University of Auburn, Dave and some friends informally set out one weekend in a NYC park to crown the best athlete on Wall Street. Fast forward 10 years and the D10 Decathlon now operates nationwide across 6 cities, is one of the premier competitions for amateur corporate athletes and has raised over 15 Million dollars towards supporting the fight against pediatric cancer.   Dave joins the show today to talk about the inspiration for and origin of the D10 Decathlon. How the event grew from a backyard event into a well oiled game day experience that involves real time scoring, a performance based betting system and an innovative spectator streaming technology that in some ways is ahead of its time. He shares a bit about his own evolution as an entrepreneur. We talk about the ins and outs of running a philanthropic business and the importance to him for this event to act as a conduit to great benefactors. We talk how the D10 grew to being able to raise annually over $1Million dollars in a single weekend.
