מזה שהמרגלים נבחרו ע"י משה רבינו ו"אותה שעה כשרים היו" [כמ"ש בפ' שלח] – מוכח שיש מקום לסברתם. ומבאר אדה"ז שהם סברו שבשביל ההתמסרות לעבודת ה' עדיף סדר החיים כפי שהי' במדבר, שקיבלו את כל צרכיהם מן המוכן וכו', על סדר החיים בארץ, שחלק מזמנם ומרצם יצטרך ללכת לדאוג לפרנסתם וכו'. וע"ז השיב להם משה "טובה הארץ מאוד מאוד" – שרצונו של ה' והתכלית של לימוד התורה וקיום המצוות היא, לעשות גם מ"ארציות" – "ארץ ישראל", חדור בתומ"צ. וההוראה ל"תלמידות המסיימות" וה"מדריכות": התכלית אינה התקופה בחיים שבה מקבלים הכל מן המוכן ומקיימים תומ"צ במנוחה וכו', אלא לנצל את מה שלמדו להיות עצמאים, פעילים ומשפיעים בעולם, שיהי' כפי רצונו ית', ולהדריך ולהשפיע כך גם על הילדים, ובזכות זה יתברכו בכל המצטרך. שיחת יום ה' פ' שלח, כ"ד סיון ה'תשכ"ח, להתלמידות המסיימות ד"בית רבקה" ולהמדריכות דמחנה "אמונה" תחיינה

Synopsis
The fact that the spies were chosen by Moshe Rabbeinu, and “at that time they were righteous” [as it says in Parashas Shelach] – shows that their argument had some merit. The Alter Rebbe explains that they believed that for a person to devote himself to Divine service, it was preferable to live the way they lived in the desert, where all their needs were provided for, rather than living in Eretz Yisrael, where they would have to spend time earning a livelihood. Moshe’s response was that, “The land is very, very good”: Hashem’s true will, and the ultimate purpose of studying Torah and performing mitzvos, is to transform even the mundane aspects of life into “Eretz Yisrael,” imbued with Torah and mitzvos. The lesson for graduating students and counselors is that the purpose of their learning is to take what they learned and stand on their own feet, to influence the world around them and to influence and guide those under their care etc. in accordance with what they have learned.
