New Frontiers for Wilson County farmers Hello and welcome everyone for Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I’m Lee Maddox.

Bev Flatt
It’s just a tremendous opportunity to contribute to the future of agriculture.

Lee Maddox
James and Bev Flatt of Wilson County have been selected to serve on the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers and Ranchers National Committee.

Bev Flatt
We’re looking forward to the responsibility and the role and the adventures that are ahead of us and collaborating with our fellow committee members to really address the challenges and the opportunities that young farmers face today.

Lee Maddox
The Flatts have for many years worked to share the story of the importance of agriculture and this new two year opportunity will help expand their goals.

James Flatt
Just those opportunities to get out there and spread the message of what agriculture is doing, especially when we’ve got people who are so far removed away from the farm. Now we need to be sharing those positive messages about what agriculture is doing for not only the people in this state or this country, but also around the world.

Lee Maddox
The flats in their early 30s are essentially first generation farmers but both have been heavily involved in the industry for a number of years. James served as State FFA, president and National Vice President. Bev works for Bayer Crop Science, and they operate a small beef cattle hay and egg farm in Wilson County. And their hope is to spread and share the voice of agriculture.

Bev Flatt
I hope we are able to do at a national level and continue to build a stronger and more resilient agriculture community for young people to be engaged in.

James Flatt
I feel like this is both Bev and I’s goal is just to bring that one more story of two young people who are going into farming or have been into farming for the last few years and continuing on a family farming operation.

Lee Maddox
The Flatts will begin their two year term on the National Committee in March at the National Young Farmers Leadership Conference in Omaha. For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I’m Lee Maddox.
