It was 45 years ago that Max Rockatansky, as played by a babyfaced Mel Gibson, first hit the deserted roadways of a near future Australia. Sure, he was more miffed than mad in his first big screen go-round, but director George Miller's debut feature MAD MAX made enough of a mark that it's still inspiring devotees nearly a half century after its debut.
