Fostering, Adoption, and Volunteerism at Local Animal Shelters

Send us a Text Message.In episode 12, I welcome my guest Berkeley Hanley. Born and raised in Bakersfield, CA Berkeley has always loved animals. She grew up with parents who were both high school biology teachers and her dad's 100+ animals in his classroom. She adopted her first rescue, Mickey, at the age of ten. Berkeley fell in love with animal shelter work during her senior year of high school and has been working in various positions at local animal shelters for the past 15 years. Currently, she is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Kern County Animal Services, where her focus is rebuilding the volunteer program after the pandemic. Animals have always been a part of her life, and she loves working with them and to help make their lives better. Berkeley strongly believes that there is always something that you can do to help animals in your community, even if you think you can't. We also discuss the high turnover rate at animal shelters and the importance of fostering and adoption, as well as the ways you can support animal shelters through volunteerism.
