Session 324: Mental Health Support For Military Families

Release Date:

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves. Deciding to enlist in the military is a huge decision, and when you have a family, that choice may come with changing dynamics, tough conversations with children, and anxiety for spouses that are left behind. However, this isn’t a battle you have to fight alone. To shed some light on this experience, and share the resources that are available to military families, I’m joined by United States Navy Veterans Kasey King and Dr. D’andria Jackson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, respectively. In our conversation today, we discuss strategies for explaining military deployment to young children, ways for military spouses to practice self-care, and how to help spouses reintegrate into the home after time away.
