Synopsis
It was only when the Jewish people said that their children would be their “guarantors” that Hashem agreed to give the Torah. Therefore, as we stand in the days of preparation for Shavuos, we must know that “our children are our guarantors!” This is therefore an appropriate time to discuss the importance of Jewish education in Torah and mitzvos: Some people give their children an education during the year that includes secular subjects. They should take advantage of this country’s practice of summer vacation, when the children are free from their secular studies, to increase in Torah study – either by sending them to a summer camp where Torah is studied in abundance (in quantity and quality), or finding them good teachers (from among the many teachers who likewise have vacation during this time of year) to teach them in a cheder. And although summer vacation doesn’t begin until a few weeks after Shavuos, as with all things that require preparation, efforts should be made in this regard starting now.Two excerpts from sichah of the night of Erev Shavuos 5733
