Quite often, you’re simply dealing with a shallow pool of talent. Entrenched beliefs and attitudes at lower levels of an organization act as a barrier to progress - not just for women, but for any minority group that's not the typical appointee. The homogenous, safe candidate is effectively ‘green lit’ all the way through the process. It's sometimes hard to find the right candidate, who will improve outcomes by offering greater diversity.
