Laurel Slyck lives close to the Oregon Trail in Boise, Idaho but she has also run the Croom Zoom 100k in 2020 and competed in Cross Country at Florida State University. She recently released a book titled “Did Anyone Tell You It Was Going To Be Easy?” It is a good one. It’s been a while since I’ve been hooked on a book, and this is one of those. This memoir really reels you in. There’s a lot of relatable themes as Laurel navigates you through her own hardships, struggles, and personal matters that honestly, most of us experience or go through in some way but never put it out there. Those are the things that really reel you in when thinking about your own life and you connect to it.
The central theme of course is running, its fluent all the way throughout the book. That sense starts off in high school, into college, and all the way through Laurels life. For me, that was also something that I personally connected to with two of my first Cross Country coaches really building that foundation for me.
Listen in and enjoy!
