The Silent Killer in Relationships

Release Date:

According to Brené Brown, a researcher at the University of Houston, shame is an “intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging.”  It’s an emotion that affects all of us and profoundly shapes the way we interact in the world. So, what does shame have to do with relationships and marriage? A lot! At its core shame affects connection which is a foundational piece of any relationship. Shame tells you that if my spouse finds out who I truly am then they will not love me. So instead I will hide. In this episode, I discuss the definition of shame, what it looks like, its effect on relationships, my ongoing experience with shame, and what experts say we can do to overcome shame.
