S2E3: Creators and Rulers

Welcome to this week’s episode of The AUSA Podcast! Today, we continue our conversation about culture making with Drew Correll, breaking down Genesis 1-2 to take a look at our responsibility as individuals created in the image and likeness of God. The opening pages of the Bible make a bold claim that invites us to rethink what being human means: God wants to partner with us in creation, and he created us like him in order that we can do so. We are made in the image of God—we communicate a representative relationship from God toward creation as rulers over the earth. And we are made in the likeness of God—we are expressions of God’s creative power and are privileged in sharing in everything God is and does as we create and rule alongside him.
We answer the question, “What image of God is conveyed in the first pages of the Bible?” and talk a little bit about what the image of God even is, discussing some the context of the time Genesis was written. We discover that God is both Creator and Ruler—breather of possibilities and setter of limits. We explore how Christ is a fulfillment of both of these things—image and likeness—and begin to look at next week’s question, “How do we take part in the renewed projects of creation and ambassadorship through Jesus?”
