Wailuku, HI - We Keep Whale Placenta in Our Cooler at the Nickelback Concert

Release Date:

Welcome to Wailuku, Hawaii!  The area was a thriving population center on Maui prior to the unification of the Hawaiian Islands in the late 18th century.  The town changed dramatically in the mid 1800s with the arrival of Christian missionaries and new agricultural techniques that helped develop sugar plantations.  With the rise of the sugar industry, thousands migrated to Wailuku from all around the world.  The town became the main tourist destination on Maui in the early 20th century.  Wailuku continued to prosper until the 1960s when a decline in the sugar industry drove families to move to find work.  The area took another economic hit with the development of large resorts on Maui that quickly became the new tourist hot spots.  In recent years the town has experienced a resurgence in tourism due to it's cultural and historical significance.  We hope you enjoy our visit to Wailuku!Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
