Ep. 54 Sam Led ”Not Broken”
At eight years old, Sam was diagnosed with ADHD. He was indirectly told he was broken and had a disability because of this diagnosis. He went on with life, graduating college and grad school until a major incident shook him to his core and confirmed how broken he was. Once Sam understood what the 3 Principles were pointing to, he realized it was just the noise causing the illusion that he was broken. And he saw clearly that he was not broken, we are not broken at all.
Sam's Information: "Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life."
Over ten years ago, I made a mistake that led to a traumatic, life-changing, situation. I thought I would never recover. My life was disintegrating before my eyes. In my darkest days, I would wake up two or three times a night, rushing to the toilet to throw up in utter fear and terror.
I allowed myself to become entangled in a Bermuda triangle of self-pity, deep foreboding, and noxious anger. I was in a swirl of self-perpetuated pain destroying my sense of self and taking away my ability to navigate through life even years after the storm had passed. This affected the most important people in my life who loved me and stood by me unconditionally.
Instead of channeling my anger, sorrow, and desperation into strength, I shared the toxic sludge of victim-hood with everyone around me.
And then one day I got quiet. I stepped out of the victim role. I stopped listening to the chaos of my thinking.
I believe there is an absolute intelligence behind life. Beyond our thinking. Beyond thought. I believe that this intelligence seeks to direct us to live life to its fullest creative potential. It’s simply self-actualized wisdom.
My first role as coach and trainer is to point my clients in the direction of this wisdom and help them see how their minds work. There are many examples of this wisdom in action. The only real challenge is that people can get too attached to their nonsense (thinking) and cannot see how the intelligence behind life is a much better resource for getting their needs met. I point to the illusory nature of thought. Your ego will fight this, but when you grasp that thought is an illusion, the scope for change is immediate.
There are no methods or special techniques. I connect with my clients in a very human way, and then we talk about the role of thought and how it either frees or limits us.
It’s a conversation that never gets old, but more importantly, it’s a conversation that allows people to slow down and see something new. Slowing down may not seem like such a big deal, but it’s the best way to have insight.
My own journey continued when I allowed myself to focus less on what happened and more on living. I earned a master's degree, moved to California, and created a thriving practice.
And None of this could have happened without working with a Coach.
I am forever indebted to my coach, colleague, and good friend Joe R. for helping me get out of my head and my own way.
It did not happen overnight. It took a lot of hard work, money, and grit and turned out to be the best money I ever spent. By working with a coach I discovered my passion for helping others. Now, I am being paid to do what I love doing; finding the talents, gifts, and resilience in people who haven’t found these attributes in themselves. It has been over ten years since the event happened and today, I run a thriving coaching practice and share my life with a wonderful woman. I bask in every lucky moment, no matter how small.
