Morning Shot: Is UN past the point of no return?

Release Date:

Following nine months of negotiations, world leaders have agreed on a landmark “Pact for the Future” at the UN General Assembly's Summit of the Future in New York. The Pact consists of 56 Actions designed to "turbocharge" the SDGs, but in particular to speed progress on issues around peace and security, global governance, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth and future generations. This comes amid mounting criticism over the United Nation’s its failures to stop wars and hold to account those who violate its charter. What can be done to make the organisation more relevant and effective on the global stage? On this episode of Morning Shot, Thomas G Weiss, Presidential Professor Emeritus for Political Science, The City University of New York Graduate Center shares his insights.
