Pucks & Brews Episode 23: Best Free Agency Ever

On this episode of Pucks & Brews, Mike is joined by Liam Gotimer to discuss the highlights of the 2022 NHL Draft, Juraj Slafkovsky getting picked first overall, Seattle lucking into drafting Shane Wright, Shane Wright giving a death stare for the ages to the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Blackhawks going from 0 to 3 first round draft picks, the double trade involving the Canadiens that sent Alexander Romanov to the Islanders and Kirby Dach to the Canadiens, this being an all time NHL names, the Vancouver Canucks picking yet another Elias Petterson, Maverick Lamerioux’s parents tongue kiss and the subsequent response by Kevin Weekes and the rest of the draft studio panel, and an appearance by wrestler Kevin Owens, some minor free agency signings, Johnny Gaudreau signing with the Blue Jackets, the decision behind that  and where that leaves them heading into next season, the Ottawa Senators signing Claude Giroux, trading for Alex Debrincat, how much they improved this offseason, the high end prospects they currently have, how improved their organizational moves look compared to years past, and a breaking piece of news of Josh Norris’s long term contract extension, how the Red Wings low key had a very good day of free agency, how they’re progressing in their rebuild, the good crop of prospects they also currently have, and how Steve Yzerman seemingly doesn’t miss as a GM, the Carolina Hurricanes trading away Tony DeAngelo and acquiring Brent Burns in separate trades, literally getting Max Pacioretty for free from the Vegas Golden Knights, and how they arguably improved from this past season, the Capitals signing Darcy Kuemper, trading for Connor Brown, and the unfortunate spot of having to short term replace Nicklas Backstrom, and how we still think they need to make a move, the New York Rangers signing Vincent Trocheck and how his contract can potentially be a bargain, getting out of Patrick Nemeth’s contract, and some questionable moves Drury has made as Rangers gm so far, some teams who didn’t really do anything in free agency, as well as losers in free agency, and much more!
