He was born in Shizuioka and as a young man he dreamt of being  a professional soccer player, it was because he needed to run to stay fit for soccer that he got into running. In addition to being an extremely accomplished ultrarunner in his own right, Aki is also an events and race organiser as well as a podcast host himself. He organises the "Trail Runner's Cup", Mount Awa Skyrace and Deep Japan Ultra.
