Send us a text. We love to hear from our fans.In this episode of our podcast, we delve into the inspiring story of Hope Renovations - an organization that stands at the intersection of women's empowerment, senior care, and the booming construction industry. Kat Reach, the Director of Construction Operations tells us their story. The journey began ten years ago when the founder and CEO of Hope Renovations, Nora Spencer, MSW, then working in HR at Lowe's corporate headquarters, found a passion for DIY home repairs and renovations. Yet, she noticed a distinct lack of women in the trades, which sparked her curiosity. However, as she expanded her hobby and began working on small renovations alongside contractors and tradespeople she began to wonder... where were all the women? She decided to leave the corporate world 10 years later to pursue a Master of Social Work from UNC, Nora encountered many capable women during her internship at a local homeless shelter. Many expressed that they had never been taught trade skills or considered it as a viable career path, viewing it as a man's job. This insight planted the seed for Hope Renovations. The organization truly took shape when Nora Spencer learned about the Aging-in-Place trend - the fastest-growing segment in the construction industry yet one struggling with capacity issues. In response, Hope Renovations was born with a mission to empower women by equipping them with construction skills, thus breaking them free from low-wage jobs and narrowing the gender pay gap. Simultaneously, the organization caters to seniors needing repairs and renovations to stay in their homes comfortably, thereby creating a dedicated workforce for this burgeoning market. This insightful episode explores how Hope Renovations is not only reshaping perceptions about women in the construction industry but also addressing a critical need in our aging society. As our guest, Kat Reach shares, it's a win-win-win situation - benefitting women, seniors, and the economy at large.Contact Hope RenovationsSupport the Show.website: https://homedesignsforlife.com/Email: homedesignsforlife@gmail.com
