#35: AV News: JetBlue pilot blows a .17 on the flight line/ What is HIMS?

Release Date:

This weeks topic is all about alcohol and the stressors that lead pilots to drink more than others as well as a program we have spoke about often on the show, Human Intervention Motivational Studies or HIMS as it is most know it as. HIMS helps pilots get back flying even if they disclose they have substance abuse issues/addiction more specifically alcoholism; but is this a suitable pathway for pilots navigating the SI pathway for SSRIs…? We also discuss the recent news of JetBlue pilot who was removed from the flight line for blowing x4 the legal limit. We do believe that pilots mental health strongly influences whether one drinks more during their career and in a world where pilots are adverse to seeking preventive care we must take into consideration how prone aviators are to self medicating with substances such as alcohol.
