The area around Laramie has been inhabited for centuries by Native American tribes and fur traders. The town owes much of its success to its location along the Overland Stage Line and its use as a "Hell-on-Wheels" style town for the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1860s. Laramie was the quentessential western town boasting a number of brothels and the Bucket of Blood Saloon.
