In the past, the term “witch” was used to refer to female healers. They were the ones who stayed behind, caring for the sick using natural remedies. This is in stark contrast to male healers, who used harsher methods to tend to the wounded on the battlefield. It is through herbalism that Maia Toll began to explore the witch archetype.  As she studied herbs and magic, Maia found herself looking to escape her earthly vessel. She never felt comfortable in her own skin, and was often frustrated by her body. Her attempts to flee brought about a revelation: an exploration that’s disconnected from the body is insanity.
