There are a certain number of school age children in Japan who haven’t attended schools for prolonged time and it has been a social problem. The reasons are chronically ill such as depression or mentally disabled from being bullied but some are unaware of reasons why they cannot go to school. The number of those children hit bottom in 2012 but it is in a sharp increase since 2013.

A new school in Gifu city opened this spring, offering an eye opening solution for those who refused to go to schools. A speech made by an associate professor from Kyoto University brought the audience into tears at the unveiling ceremony.

Let’s see if his speech can unbox Japan.
