This interactive discussion will focus on the impact of far-right extremism and building connected and resilient communities. The discussion will include: Guest panelists Associate Professor Debra Smith; Victoria University, Institute for Sustainable Industries & Livable Cities – talking to ethnographic research on Australian far right movements and her work in building resilient inclusive communities. Robert Örell; of Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) – has the lived experience of exiting far right extremist and now consults with individuals, organisations, and multilaterals on disengagement from political extremism and criminal gangs. Charles Allen; Institute for Economics and Peace – presenting macro findings from the Global Terrorism Index and Positive Peace as a framework for community cohesion and resilience Phil Shepherd of Active Leadership – Moderates this discussion from a position of career experience in Preventing Violent Extremism and Countering Violent Extremisn.
