Bio
Sarah Morgan isn't your average historian. Sure, she has a Bachelors' in History and years of experience as a museum guide and archivist.
Sarah has a monthly segment on the Calutron Girls at WATE News Channel 6 in Knoxville, TN keeps her connected to local audiences, and her work with the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge delves into the fascinating history of science and technology.
But her true passion lies in uncovering the fascinating stories of the First Ladies – and their favorite recipes! This passion extends beyond dusty archives and into the kitchen. In 2019, a chance thrift store find – "The First Ladies Cook Book" – sparked a delicious journey. Sarah launched her Instagram project, "@CookingwiththeFirstLadies," with the ambitious goal of cooking her way through every presidential administration.
She now creates engaging content for the National First Ladies' Library, including videos packed with fun food facts, cooking tutorials, and historical recipes. Her signature program, "Cooking with the First Ladies," is a unique crash course in American history. Participants get a taste of a First Lady's life – her biography, accomplishments, and the cultural context of her era – all while learning to recreate one of her favorite dishes.
Sarah's passion for history extends beyond the White House, too. She also explores lesser-known stories, like the crucial role of women in the fight for suffrage. Her program, "Cooking with the Suffragettes," delves into the history of the 19th Amendment, highlighting the contributions of women like Abigail Adams and Anita Pollitzer. While there's no live cooking here, participants get recipe booklets featuring historically significant dishes from the suffrage movement (Lady Baltimore Cake, anyone?)
