Episode 300: Spartans!

Release Date:

Spartan culture was all about being tough and ready for battle. They trained hard, ate tough, and had no time for luxuries like haircuts or personal hygiene. They were so tough, they even made their children run away from home at a young age to fend for themselves. They were also known for their legendary battle cry "This is Sparta!" which they shouted while kicking people into wells. All in all, Spartan culture was pretty intense and not for the faint of heart. But hey, at least they had a good sense of humor about it. After all, laughter is the best medicine... unless you're in the middle of a battle. Then, a sharp spear is probably better.RecommendationsAbraham: The Devil’s Hour TV show (https://www.amazon.com/The-Devils-Hour-Season-1/dp/B0B5LFBYJW)Shane: Using cookbooksLinks and Referenceshttps://www.britannica.com/place/Spartahttps://www.artofmanliness.com/character/military/the-spartan-way-the-mindset-and-tactics-of-a-battle-ready-warrior/https://www.history.com/topics/ancient-rome/sparta#:~:text=Spartan%20culture%20was%20centered%20on,emphasized%20duty%2C%20discipline%20and%20endurance.https://www.thecollector.com/role-spartan-women-ancient-greece/https://dailyhistory.org/What_Caused_the_Decline_of_Spartahttps://www.filmstories.co.uk/features/300-a-film-more-historically-accurate-than-its-given-credit-for/https://www.britannica.com/event/Battle-of-Thermopylae-Greek-history-480-BChttps://www.thearchaeologist.org/blog/eugenics-program-in-ancient-sparta-and-the-unexpected-resultshttps://www.worldhistory.org/article/342/agoge-the-spartan-education-program/https://sites.psu.edu/thehopliteexperience/the-phalanx/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/why-we-do-what-we-do--3419521/support.
