Longhorn Blitz: Unpacking an ugly Texas win, life without Quinn Ewers

Release Date:

Rod Babers, Matt Butler and Jeff Howe recap an ugly 31-24 road win Texas scored over Houston coming off of the bye week. It wasn't all bad for the Longhorns, and nobody should ever apologize for winning a conference road game, but lingering problems like communication issues in the second, Steve Sarkisian's game management at the end of halves (notably a lack of complementary football) and the offense's struggles against three-safety defenses are compounded by Quinn Ewers' shoulder injury.

Although Texas isn't operating at full strength right now, BYU isn't going to shed a tear for the Longhorns. The margin for error against the Cougars is smaller than it would otherwise be with Ewers on the field, but Sarkisian's team is by no means out of the mix for the Big 12 title.
