頭の良さよりも、腕っぷしの強さが褒められた時代、
常陸国の高い山の麓の村に、勘太郎という18歳の賢い男がいた。
勘太郎は読み書きそろばんでは一番だが、体は小さく細く弱かった。
そのため、勘太郎は、自分よりも馬鹿な奴らに連れ回されていた。

In a village at the foot of a high mountain in the country of Hitachinoku, there was a clever 18-year-old man named Kantaro.
Kantaro was the best in reading, writing, and abacus, but his body was small, thin, and weak.
Because of this, Kantaro was taken around by people who were dumber than he was.
