“There is wisdom in your attention. As soon as you start paying attention, you can make a change.” -MaryAnn
“When you take care of yourself, it permeates to the others around you.” -Dr. Jamal
About MaryAnn
MaryAnn resides in Canada and has recently transitioned from being an RN working in a hospital to a personal trainer. She recently received her certification to become an Integrative Health Practitioner. MaryAnn is helping people get to the root cause of their symptoms and increase awareness of what is happening in their bodies.
In this episode Dr. Jamal and MaryAnn discuss how to create space and connect with yourself, and how that allows you to think critically, reflect, and apply what you learn.
The key for healthcare providers to navigate outside of the sickcare system is to first identify that you are no longer in alignment with that system. (02:40)
To some people, the concept of “do the work” might seem cutesy or mystical rather than tangible. What does it look like to evaluate this and actually “do the work”? (07:02)
It is important to know the routines and rituals that nourish you, so you can connect with yourself. Self-connection is massively important! (08:04)
In order to shift your health and manifest the things you want, you have to manage your focus and manage your energy. Rituals allow you to create space to critically think, reflect, and apply without distraction. (10:16)
We can look at our patients and tell them exactly what’s wrong and what they should do to fix it. But can we do that for ourselves? (15:15)
There is wisdom in your attention. As soon as you start paying attention, you can make a change. What is the story of your struggle? Is it true? (21:26)
How does one go about writing a lifestyle prescription for themselves? (25:38)
What the f*ck is the point of “just getting through”? -Dr. J
If you’re not in reflection and awareness of your mind, your body is moving without intention. (40:15)
What would your work look like if it looked exactly the way you wanted it to? (44:50)
When you take care of yourself, it permeates horizontally and vertically. (47:30)
Potent nuggets:
> Self-reflection starts with small self check-ins.
> The body makes no mistakes. We make the mistake of ignoring the body.
> Integration is the “catching up” of the mind and body. Integration is seen by a shift in behavior.
> Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.
