Dr. John Milton Bigelow did not shy away from hard work, challenges, or adventure. At the age of 46, he signed on as surgeon and botanist for the Mexican Boundary Survey, following the U.S.-Mexican War that fulfilled the gold-hungry manifest destiny of the Americans. 
This adventure took him through the Chihuahuan, Sonoran and Colorado deserts, where he catalogued the great variety of desert plants along with several other botanists on the expedition — including C.C. Parry, namesake of Parry’s Nolina. The work was so pleasing to Bigelow that he readily accepted similar appointments as field botanist in some of America's wildest lands. Although I never studied abroad myself I have no doubt at all that I would have loved every minute of it - and my three guests today certainly remind me of all of the many ways a study abroad experience can be life-changing.
I start off chatting with Pam Petro who studied a graduate program in Wales, and not only learnt something from her course but began a lifetime obsession with all things Welsh.
Next, I speak with Brandon Miller who studied abroad in France. He has now co-founded the Too Fly Foundation which helps students from under-privileged backgrounds access experiences like study abroad programs, as he recognised how valuable and life-changing they are.
Finally, I talk to Alex Zeringer, who was a student I met while he was studying abroad here in Perth at Murdoch University, where I teach (among other subjects) podcasting - it was so great to catch up with him now that he's back at university in Ireland.

USDA v. Kirtz (Fair Credit Reporting Act / Sovereign Immunity)

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE RURAL DEVELOPMENT RURAL HOUSING SERVICE v. KIRTZ Reginald Kirtz obtained a loan from the Department of Agriculture Rural Development Rural Housing Service.  According to Kirtz, the USDA later told one of the major credit agencies (TransUnion) that Kirtz was behind on his payments.  Kirtz says this was false and these false statements hurt his credit report and score.  He sued the USDA under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  The USDA moved to dismiss in District Court because on sovereign immunity grounds.  The FCRA defines "person" to include government agencies -- but the statute does not expressly abrogate sovereign immunity otherwise.  The District Court granted the USDA's motion to dismiss on these grounds.  The Third Circuit reversed.  The issue in front of the Supreme Court was whether the federal government can be sued for violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, o

And while you can do this like right now - no mater what microphone you have - doing this solves one large problem (audio quality) while creating a few new MINOR issues.
