On the Freemasonic Roots of the Ecumenical Movement - St. Seraphim of Sofia

St. Seraphim of Sofia discusses an important aspect of the Ecumenical Movement in the 20th century: Freemasonry. Presenting to the Moscow Pan-Orthodox Congress of 1948, which included representatives from nearly all autocephalous Orthodox churches, St. Seraphim highlights the well-known Freemason, John Raleigh Mott, the main promoter of "unity" among separate Christian groups. Mott spearheaded the 1910 World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh and the first meeting of the World Council of Churches in 1948. Mott helped send Protestant student missionaries with the YMCA to evangelize Orthodox countries and for his ecumenical efforts won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. St. Seraphim understands that ecumenical efforts only serve to blur the boundaries between the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church (the Orthodox Church) and other sects claiming to be part of the Church. The Implications of China’s BRI in Space with Dr. Fumiko Sasaki

In this episode of "Asia in Washington," hosts Adriana Reinecke and Dylan Harris sit down with Dr. Fumiko Sasaki, lecturer on East Asian Security for the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, to discuss the Spatial Information Corridor component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Dr. Sasaki explains the importance of space to China’s economic development and security posture as articulated by President Xi Jinping, describing China’s trajectory to its emergence as a major space power. She further explains the implications of China’s provision of satellite services to client nations via its recently-completed BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), and how this provision serves to expand China’s global influence.

This is an early Makkan surat; its central theme is resurrection. The story of Pharaoh highlights why some people don't believe, because of pride, selfishness and love of the world (15). The surat opens with five oaths - five descriptive, active participles that are enigmatic and unclear, making them difficult to translate. However, commentators have variously interpreted them as referring to warhorses, different winds, various stars, the souls of the righteous and the angels. The evidence invoked here leads to the conclusion, "You will certainly be resurrected."
