We Rise Up

Michael Shaun Conaway

The world is in the midst of a tremendous period of disruption and our global systems are rapidly breaking down, no longer adequate to support humanity facing crises on every front. We must find a new way to collectively deal with the future that is emerging. At this critical inflection point, We Rise UP asks the fundamental questions: How do we move forward? and What is success individually and collectively? Through an intimate inquiry with leading business, entertainment, and thought leaders, along with the voices of global citizens from all walks of life, the film explores new personal, systemic and collective models of success, prosperity, contribution and what it will take for humanity to create a thriving future. Transitioning between intimate dialogue to cinematically stunning visuals and music driven interstitials, this film is a radical departure from the expert-driven documentary, into a profound personal journal of inquiry, reflection and action

His legions of fans think of him as one of the most scathingly on-target comics on the planet. Lewis Black: Black on Broadway

Paul Miller

He tells the truth as he sees it...and to hell with the consequences. He's Lewis Black, 'America's foremost commentator on everything,' and he's bringing his 'Rules of Enragement' tour to HBO! The cantankerous comedian/author/playwright/pundit stars in his first HBO solo special, which features an hour of frenetic, take-no-prisoners stand-up comedy. Taped before a live audience at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in New York City, the show presents Black's dead-on insights into such disparate issues as homeland security, tax-cut benefits, international travel, Martha Stewart and, of course, WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction).

The Pest (1997)

Paul Miller

It's a chase, a hunt, a party and a riot in Miami s colorful South Beach as John Leguizamo stars as Pestario "Pest" Vargas, a chameleon-like con artist who can go from being a fast-talking Chinese delivery boy to an unorthodox Orthodox Rabbi in the blink of an eye. It's an ability that usually gets him out of any jam, but Pest will need every face he's got once he attracts the attention of Gustav Shank (Jeffrey Jones), the crazy German who is hunting him (for his head), and the mob (the Scottish mob, that is), who want the $50,000 he owes them. It's an all-out, knock-down, drag-out to the finish, but Pest will do whatever it takes to outrun the psycho hunters and Scottish mobsters and make it to his African American girlfriend's house in time for dinner with her parents-no matter who's offended in the process.

An unexpected act of violence disrupts the lives of these intertwined couples revealing the profound moments in which they each realize how precarious and remarkable life can be. High school student Arthur plays trombone in the marching band, busses tables at the local Chinese restaurant and avoids his squabbling parents. At work, he flirts with Annie, who used to be his baby-sitter. Annie is trying to build a new life for herself and her daughter after splitting with high school sweetheart Glenn. A man with a troubled past, Glenn hopes to make a new start by getting a job and reconnecting with his family. At school, Arthur meets a pretty girl, Lila, who is just as nerdy as he is, and they quickly develop a crush on each other. Though Lila makes her feelings for Arthur painfully obvious, Arthur is reluctant to accept her advances as he watches his father move out of the family home while his mother struggles to keep things together. Determined to find happiness, Arthur begins to fall for the irresistible Lila, even as he witnesses Annie and Glenn tear each other apart in a series of distressing encounters at the same time as his parents begin separate lives. Then, on a cold winter morning, Glenn and Annie's past catches up with their future. In one shocking moment, all of the pain and struggle comes to a screeching halt. For them, and for everyone who knows them, nothing will ever be the same.
